Tips on Shopping for Lift Recliners
When you or someone you love needs a lift recliner to make life safer and more comfortable, the choices available can be intimidating. The days of just a few choices and limited design options are long gone. Today’s lift recliners are stylish and feature lots of optional extras. Knowing what you need and want is the first step in choosing the right lift recliner for you and your family.

The most important thing to know about lift recliners is that they come in several different options depending on what the person will be using it for. If you simply want a lift chair that will assist you in standing up and sitting down, a lift only version will work fine. These lift recliners generally feature a seat that lifts up while the chair frame stays stationary on the floor. They generally are the smallest in style and can come in traditional styles such as wing back and Queen Anne chairs.

However, if you’ll also want to recline in order to read or watch television more comfortably, two position lift recliners are a good choice. These chairs lift as one unit to assist in sitting and standing, but also recline to a half-way position that’s relaxing and comfortable for a variety of activities.

If you like to take the occasional nap in your recliner or sometimes need to elevate your feet and keep your head low for health reasons, either a three position or infinite position recliner is the best choice. These can be put nearly flat for comfortable sleeping and elevate the feet to improve blood flow and help your circulation. These are particularly nice if you sometimes aren’t comfortable sleeping in your bed or prefer to stay in your family or living room.

Don’t forget to check out the weight limits when looking at lift recliners. Top quality lift chair recliners should have a weight capacity of at least 350 pounds on a standard model. This will ensure that it comfortably and safely supports most individuals. If you weigh more than that, you should consider going with a heavy duty chair with a weight capacity of up to 700 pounds. These models feature extra reinforcing and a stronger, more durable frame and will have a wider seat width to accommodate the extra size.

Do you have aches and pains that would benefit from heat and massage? If so, you’re in luck. You can often add optional features such as heat and massage to lift recliners at minimal cost. If you are considering these features, be sure to compare the controls from one brand to another. Look for easy to read, easy to use controls, and don’t forget to ask about the types of massage settings.

Once you’ve decided on the features you want, you can begin looking for the style of lift recliners that will look nicest in your home. You can find classic, contemporary and modern styles, so be sure to shop around. Do you want a tufted or button back chair to go with your traditional living room, or would you prefer the comfort of an overstuffed pillow back? Do you want wood trim on the arms, or a fully upholstered chair? What about the arms of the chair; do you like a nicely curved arm, or would a straight arm be more attractive in your living room?

The final style choice is the fabric; today’s lift recliners can be upholstered in buttery-soft vinyl, various fabrics or microsuede in a rainbow of color choices. In fact, the custom upholstery options often rivals those offered for standard recliners in upscale furniture stores.

By focusing on what you need and want in your chair, you can quickly find the perfect lift chair recliner for you out of the hundreds of styles available when shopping for lift recliners for your home.
