FL Health Insurance: Different From Other States

If you’re looking for health insurance in the Sunshine State, you’re in luck because you’ll have more options than you would in many other parts of the country. For example, if you’re looking for health insurance quotes, you can choose from Aetna, Humana, Golden Rule (which is a United Healthcare Company), Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Avalon, Vista Healthplans, Preferred Medical Plan, American Medical Security, and many others. Plus, you can select from a wide array of different plans being offered by these carriers. Everything from HSA’s, PPO’s, HMO’s POS’s, HRA’s, and EPO’s. This gives you the opportunity to do some serious comparison-shopping to get the biggest bang for your buck with FL health insurance.

In these days of skyrocketing health care costs, comparison shopping is nothing to sneeze at. If you’re a Florida resident, you need to be aware that insurance is governed by a different set of rules than those in other states. In Florida, for instance, rates are governed by the Florida Department of Insurance, which guarantees everyone is covered by carrier direct Florida medical insurance.

Florida health insurance has one feature that many residents really like: customers get a 10-day “Free Look Period” to evaluate the different plans and carriers that come with a money-back guarantee. That’s a pretty good deal, especially when you look at the alternative plans offered in other states. The wide range of possibilities enables healthcare agents to tailor your health plan to the particular needs of you and your family.

If you already live in Florida, or are planning to move there, it’s in the best interests of you and your family to know the ins and outs of the health care system, including which companies offer the best plans for families and individuals. Look into which doctors you can see, and the types of care that are available under the different plans.

Some health insurance companies will cover chiropractic care or acupuncture and other types of alternative therapies. Others won’t cover that kind of care, so if you want it, you’re forced to pay for it out of pocket. So, it’s important not only to know about your options, but also to know your rights. If you want to get the best health care that Florida has to offer, you have to do your research. But if you look around on the Internet, it’s really not too difficult to find good information about every aspect of Florida health insurance.

Here’s just one example of a health insurance choice you will need to consider: do you want a traditional health care plan that offers you the maximum amount of choices, or do you want to go with a managed care plan that limits your range of choices for doctors, specialists and hospitals, but offers you these services at a considerably lower cost. Do you know what EPO’s are? If you’re not familiar with this acronym, it stands for Exclusive Provider Organizations. EPO’s contract with certain doctors and hospitals to get the best rates and services they can for their customers, but the customers are limited to using only the physicians and facilities that are included in the EPO network. Having your choices limited like that can be daunting, especially for families with kids, so you’ll want to weigh that option carefully.

In the end, picking the right FL health insurance option for yourself and your family comes down to finding the right balance between cost and services. Personally, my preference is to go with the plan that offers the greatest flexibility in choosing a doctor or health care specialist, but that’s what is most important for my situation. Your situation may be different. The great thing about Fl health care plans is all of the flexibility that they provide.
