Ethicon Endo Surgery: Small Incisions Equal Fast Recovery

Ethicon Endo surgery is a type of minimally invasive surgery.  It combines innovation with cutting edge surgical technology.  The goal of endo surgery is the same as traditional surgery; repairing of tissue, removal of diseased tissue, and diagnosis.  However, endo surgery strives to meet these goals with the smallest possible incisions and decreased physical trauma.

When performing surgery, it is necessary to make incisions in skin, fat, and tissue in order to gain access to the affected area.  The incision is the primary source of post surgical pain and can cause infection.  Fear of this pain can cause a high degree of patient stress and can lead to longer recovery time or the patient avoiding surgery all together.  The resulting delay in treatment may permit a life threatening disease to progress and advance and make the surgery more difficult or even impossible.  Therefore, the fear of surgical pain can actually lead to increased surgical complications and even death.  Ethicon Endo surgery allows surgeons to perform operations through a tiny keyhole incision, significantly reducing post surgical pain and the risk of infection.  This makes having surgery earlier in the course of the disease more agreeable to many patients.  This may make the surgery less dangerous, easier for both doctor and patient, and much more effective.

Ethicon Endo surgery, or minimally invasive surgery, began in 1988 as a surgical treatment for gallstones.  Since then, minimally invasive surgery has been increasing in acceptance by the medical field and in popularity by the public.  The original gallbladder surgeries used lasers, which is not common in Ethicon Endo surgery today.  However, today's techniques allow surgeons to use minimally invasive techniques to a wide array of surgical procedures.

A videoscope is typically used for endo surgery.  A scope ranges in size from 2 to 10 mm in diameter.  It can be inserted into the body so that the surgeon can see the organs that are going to be operated on.  The surgeon then inserts long instruments through very small puncture holes in the patient in order to operate.  Previously, without the use of the scope, the surgeon would have to make a large incision in order to see and operated on the affected organs or tissue.

The types of Ethicon Endo surgeries are constantly increasing.  Some common examples of minimally invasive surgery include gallbladder removal, hernia repair, appendectomies, cancer diagnosis, splenectomies, and adrenalectomies.  Many surgical specialties, such as Thoracic, Gynecology, Pediatric, and Orthopedic, are increasing their use of endo surgical techniques with Ethicon Endo products.

Ethicon Endo surgery requires specialized and advanced tools.  Circular staplers can be used to treat hemorrhoids while linear staplers and cutters are used for gastric by pass and colon resection.  These staplers are designed to be easy to use and control.  This leads to a more positive experience for both the surgeon and the patient.

Another minimally invasive surgical device is an ultrasonic cutting and coagulating tool.  This comprehensive system has been used by doctors and surgeons all over the world to perform endoscopic procedures and surgeries.  The vibrating blades offer incredibly precise cutting with the smallest possible tissue damage.

A third Ethicon Endo surgery devise is a cutting edge biopsy system.  This tool helps doctors diagnose breast cancer in its very earliest stages.  The biopsy is guided by images and is performed with local anesthetic.  The entire procedure only takes about one hour.  Coupling the device with ultrasound allows doctors to treat benign lesions without open surgery.

Ethicon Endo surgery tools and devices are the future of minimally invasive surgery.  Endo surgery allows patients to recover faster, with less pain and stress.  The types of minimally invasive surgeries continue to grow and increase in popularity with both doctor and patients.  Endo surgery relies on innovative tools and cutting edge surgical devices.
